Coconut milk as safe as breast milk.

A study by the Bureau of Agricultural Research confirmed what millions of South East Asians and Pacific Islanders knew for generations: coconut milk is not only lip-smacking and so delicious but is super safe for human consumption.

What is coconut milk? It is NOT the clear liquid endosperm that gradually forms the coconut meat within the hard shell, THAT is called coconut water. Coconut milk is the thick white liquid that oozes out of the meat when it is pressed or squeezed.

Coconut milk is made mostly of medium-chain fats called lauric oils, which is similar to the lauric oils found in breastmilk. Lauric oils are natural enhancers of the immune system. Coconut oil can help us from getting sick.

The medium chain fatty acids in Coconut oil are medium chain triglycerides or MCTs A.K.A. lean fats. They are fatty acids whose chemical composition is shorter than the long-chain fatty acids present in most other fats and oils. MCTs differ from other fats in that they have slightly lower calorie content and are more rapidly absorbed and burned as energy, resembling carbohydrates more than fats.

Because of their structure, MCTs do not raise serum cholesterol or contribute to heart disease like the long chain triglycerides found in seed oils.

We are talking here about natural coconut oil found in coconut milk, NOT hydrogenated coconut oil which is an entirely different story.

So, if coconut milk is as safe as breastmilk, shouldn't it be safe, if not healthy, for breastfeeding mothers?

However, it should be consumed in moderation because any kind of fat is still fat and too much consumption of it without the proportionate exercise will result in the fat being deposited around the hips and thighs as extra padding.
